5 Fun Winter Activities for Kids in NYC

Being from NYC ourselves, we're no stranger to the yearly holiday celebrations in NYC. From bright lights to Christmas shopping, here's our Top 5 Winter Activities to do with your kids in NYC or for anyone that's visiting the Big Apple soon in winter weather.

Every November 30th NYC' favorite Christmas tree is lit for the Holiday season and tourists and native New Yorkers turn out to see the famous Christmas tree. The Rockefeller Tree will be lit until January 7th. It's one of those NYC traditions you have to see at least once in your lifetime. And after viewing the tree, you can head to the ice rink at Rockfeller Center for some winter fun with the kids.

When you're too tired out from snow fun or going shopping in the city, head over to one of these hot chocolate bars for warmth. It's a great winter kids activity because our little ones always need to keep warm for the winter. When you're on the go, check out yelp for the nearest hot chocolate bar on your block.

What's a good treat to go with hot chocolate? Making a gingerbread house at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. They have gingerbread workshops during the week of Christmas for families to make gingerbread houses with their kid. The cost is $45 per family, but the cost is split up further per person if 2-3+ or more people and kids go! Museums and libraries always have winter activities for kids, so check out the local museums and libraries for some winter fun for kids.

It's not a NYC Christmas without selling the New York City Ballet perform the nutcracker. We've all grown up with many classic Christmas fairytales, but seeing the Christmas fairytale in-person makes a big difference! There's a showing everyday, but get those tickets asap for this yearly treat.

At the end of the day, it's time for some Christmas and Holiday movie fun! Nitehawk movie theater in Willamsburg always has holiday movies at this time of the year, just check out their schedule for classics like Rudolph, Elf, It's A Wonderful Life, and so on! And the Museum of Natural History has their new, educational winter themed film, Wonders of The Arctic for children to learn all about animals that live in the cold, year round.
